A cool front is expected to bring colder weather to Southwest Florida starting tonight and into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, lows are expected to drop into the 50s throughout the area, with lows forecast overnight Thursday into Friday of 54 degrees in Fort Myers and 57 degrees in Naples.
The front has been responsible for the overcast and breezy conditions seen through most of the area Thursday.
After temperatures drop Thursday night, forecasts call for sunny and clear conditions Friday with highs in the low 70s, followed by another night of lows in the 50s, with some areas inland potentially seeing lows dip below 50 degrees.
The cooldown won’t last too long, however, as highs are expected to hover back around 80 degrees with lows in the 60s by Sunday and into next week.
A second frontal system is currently stalled over northern Florida and is expected to eventually make its way this far south, according to forecast discussion from the National Weather Service, sometime Monday into Tuesday, but is not expected to drop temperatures from where they will be on Sunday. The second front brings a low chance of showers, but forecasts expect the area to stay dry for the most part.
