A Cape Coral man was held by family members until police arrived after allegedly entering a home while drunk and grabbing a female victim on Friday.
According to the Cape Coral Police Department, officers responded to a call about a burglary in progress at 300 block S.E. 47th Terrace around 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 21. Reports say that officers arrived to find two people holding down Joshua Richard Hallett, 31, in the front yard, who was intoxicated.
CCPD said that Hallett entered the home while drunk and grabbed a female inside. He had never lived in or visited the home and the victim did not know him. A man in the home took Hallett outside and locked him out of the house. Two other residents who were arriving home found Hallett on their porch, and after being warned about the burglary, tackled and held the fleeing suspect until officers could arrive.
Hallett was taken to a hospital for the treatment of minor injuries before being booked at the Lee County Jail. He is listed as homeless in booking records. The suspect was charged with burglary, battery, and two counts of assault. Hallett is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 22.
