A pedestrian is in critical condition after being struck by a car near the Pine Manor neighborhood in Fort Myers.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, an unidentified 62 year-old male was admitted to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition after being stuck by car near 11700 South Cleveland Avenue in Fort Myers just south of Palm Drive.
The man was crossing the southbound lanes of US 41 from a 7-Eleven at around 5:29 a.m. in dark clothing without using the crosswalk. According to the report, the man crossed into the path of 28 year-old Steven Morse Jr. of Lehigh Acres who was driving a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica. The front of the car struck the man in his left side, pushing him into the hood of the car as it skid 36 feet before coming to a stop.
The man was thrown forward onto the roadway as the vehicle came to a stop.
The pedestrian was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. His identity has not been released because next of kin has not yet been notified.
