The portion of U.S. 41 between State Road 29 and San Marco Road has been reopened as of 9:20 a.m. after being shut down early Tuesday morning due to smoke from a nearby wildfire.
At around 4:20 a.m. the Florida Highway Patrol closed the section of road due to smoke from a wildfire in the Picayune Strand. Visibility in the area had dropped below 100 feet because of the smoke and had become dangerous.
The section of road has now been reopened but smoke is still affecting visibility and a travel advisory is still in place, according to the FHP. Drivers are encouraged to use caution.
