No need to look further than Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate for a well-rounded, fun and tranquil vacation. Orlando’s theme parks are just minutes away but the property promises an abundance of activities and events for the whole family with a schedule of planned events for kids – and adults. My son had a blast in the fully supervised Omni Kids Escape kids club playing games and making crafts while my husband Bill and I enjoyed an educational and uplifting Bourbon Tasting at David’s Club, one of the seven restaurants on-site.
Afterwards, we had a romantic dining experience at Trevi’s. A restaurant offering Italian inspired dishes. For starters, we shared the Caprese Pomodoro with vine ripened tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, balsamic reduction and fresh basil. I paired this with Trevi’s house cabernet sauvignon which was a magnificent compliment to the dish. For main course, I ordered Cappasante con Linguini containing seared sea scallops in a white truffle tomato sauce. The scallops were super-sized and just exploding with flavor! My husband ordered Costola Bistecca. A huge grilled 16-ounce ribeye steak with rosemary and sage roasted potatoes. The select piece of Angus meat was cooked to perfection and the fresh herbs brought an intense flavor profile with every bite. On select Saturday nights, fireworks light up the landscape with a backdrop of a lovely sunset.
Bill had played the Omni ChampionsGate’s 36 hole Greg Norman-designed International golf course. Being an avid golfer, he relished in the firm and fast playing condition of the greens, complex bunkers and vast 42,000 square feet of Champion Bermuda. Golfers at any level of expertise delight in the lighted nine-hole par 3 course, Crane’s Adventure miniature golf and David Leadbetter Golf Academy. The 35,000 square foot clubhouse has a full-service bar and restaurant with a pro shop.
The regal 1,200-acre property recently underwent a $40 million expansion project offering an outstanding five-acre recreational area showcasing a formal pool with private cabanas and meditation garden, an 850-foot lazy river, activity pool with slides and fountains, as well as Orlando’s first and only resort wave pool. We spent the days swimming, splashing and riding tubes! The new addition will also include expanded conference center space, and event lawn for celebrations and weddings. Broadway Deli is a great pit stop for snacks and ready-made meals adjacent to the pool area. If you’re in your flip flops then Croc’s, the outside tiki pool bar and grill, is perfect for grilled sandwiches, appetizers and adult cocktails.
Each morning, you could order off of Trevi’s breakfast menu or divulge in the grand breakfast buffet that runs until 11:00 am. A tasty selection of foods from several different stations with inclusion of cured meats, array of different cheeses, olives, sausages, bacon, cream cheese spreads, fresh fruits and breads. There is a chef-appointed omelet station to custom design your own. I personally loved the station of warmed stone-ground grits where you select your own toppings such as shrimp, cheese, bacon, tomatoes and scallions, and seasons of four different salts from around the globe. You could also find biscuits and gravy, granola and gluten-free foods. They have it all!
When you’re ready to relax, Mokara Spa is a mere few steps away for facials, body wraps, massages and salon services. They offer terrific beauty products where I found my favorite line of skin care, Eminence. This is great for a girls day out, couples’ massage or after playing sports at the on-site sports field complex. Offering in-season and off-season practice facilities for major league teams as well as local teams.
