Brandon Goodwin scored 27 points, and the FGCU men’s basketball team never trailed in a 76-60 win over Stetson in DeLand on Thursday.
After losing their last two games, the Eagles(21-10, 12-2 ASUN) wrapped up the regular season by playing defense which had eluded them in their last two games.
FGCU held Stetson(12-19, 4-10) to 35 percent shooting on Thursday, after allowing consecutive games of opponents shooting better than 50 percent from the field.
“Our defense was a lot better tonight,” Eagles coach Joe Dooley said. “Those stops allowed us to get out in transition and get a flow going offensively. We did a good job of moving the ball and not turning it over as much. We played pretty unselfishly, and it’s a good way to head into the ASUN tournament.”
Goodwin led all scorers with 27, while Christian Terrell scored 17 points and RaySean Scott Jr. added 11 off the bench. Christiaan Jones led Stetson with 11 points. The Eagles led by as many as 24 in the second half.
FGCU begins the ASUN tournament on Monday as the top-seed, playing host to No. 8 seeded USC-Upstate(7-24, 2-12). Upstate lost to NJIT on Thursday, 76-67, and have lost their last four.
