A suspect has been jailed in connection with a shooting that took place during a pool party in south Cape Coral Sunday night.
According to the Cape Coral Police Department, Philip Bonvino, 64, was staying at his girlfriend’s condo located at 4719 Santa Barbara Boulevard South while residents were having a gathering in the pool area around 10:55 p.m. on Sunday. Witnesses say Bonvino became vulgar and insulting while arguing with condo residents and was told to leave. After continuing to argue and refusing to go, the Cape Coral man was escorted by the condo vice-president to the parking lot and told not to return.
Two people were standing near the parking lot when they heard the gate open about 20 minutes after Bonvino was escorted out. They saw a red laser sight moving back and forth, and then witnessed Bonvino approaching with a gun. One of the bystanders charged Bonvino in an attempt to disarm him, but was shot and fell into bushes near the condo. Other guests were able to rush in and disarm the shooter, holding him until officers arrived on the scene.
EMS took the unidentified victim to a local hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the stomach and Bonvino was taken to a local hospital for an injury to his eye sustained during a struggle with the guests who
Witnesses say it was clear that Bonvino was not defending himself and had left the scene for 20 to 30 minutes, returning with a firearm in order to inflict harm.
After being booked and processed, Bonvino was transported to the Lee County Jail.
