An elderly couple was found dead in their home in North Naples Saturday morning after Collier County deputies responded to reports of an alleged shooting.
According to the incident report, a deputy responded to the home located at 7372 Lantana Circle in Naples around 9:52 a.m. on Saturday.
Upon entering the home, the deputy discovered both Anthony Delia, 80, and Josephine Delia, 81, dead from gunshot wounds to the head.
Josephine suffered from dementia, according to a home healthcare nurse who witnessed the incident. The nurse said that the woman regularly became combative during episodes of her condition, which frustrated Anthony, who was himself a cancer patient. The two had been fighting the night before, but the nurse told deputies that the couple went to bed without incident.
After assisting Josephine with a shower Saturday morning, Anthony asked the nurse to give the two privacy and took his wife to their bedroom. The nurse heard a single gunshot and returned to the room to see Anthony with his back turned to her and a gun in her hand. As she fled the house the nurse said that she heard two more shots. She waited outside until deputies arrived.
