Final preparations for Hurricane Irma’s arrival should be rushed to completion today, as time is quickly running out.
All Southwest Florida Publix stores will be closing at 8 p.m. tonight.
Wal-Mart and Target closed at 2 p.m.
Costco will stay open until 8:30 p.m., and until 6 p.m. Saturday if conditions allow.
Sam’s Club will close at 5 p.m.
Winn-Dixie stores are currently scheduled to remain open for their regular hours.
Weather forecasts call for the outer bands of Irma to start affecting conditions on Saturday, with the most serious effects starting to impact our area Sunday.
The National Weather Service Miami office urges those finishing their preparations to be done today, and have their plans to ride out the storm or be in a shelter in place for Saturday morning.
“Preparations to protect life and property are strongly urged to be completed by tonight. All persons in South Florida should take shelter by early Saturday morning. Hurricane Irma is a potentially deadly situation and should not be taken lightly. Everyone is urged to exercise extreme caution in order to protect their lives,” the bulletin warns.
