Three Cheers: Things to do this weekend

The madness of tax-free weekend has come and gone and we’re heading into the second week of August. I know it’s hard to admit for some, but it looks like summer vacation is all but over. While parents don’t usually get a summer vacation like their kids do, here’s somethings to do this weekend in Southwest Florida if you’re looking to celebrate your kids being back in school and out of the house.

Jaycee Acoustic Jam in Cape Coral – Jaycee Park will be hosting an Acoustic Jam on Thursday in Cape Coral. Different from your different open mic night, the park’s acoustic jam is for local musicians of all ages and levels to come together and jam out. Admission is free and the event will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Yappy Hour in Fort Myers – Bell Tower Shops will be hosting Yappy Hour in Fort Myers on Friday.  Held the second Friday of every month, all in attendance can meet adoptable dogs, eat at one of eight pet-friendly restaurants, enjoy refreshments from the outdoor bar and listen to live music while enjoying the company of their four-legged friend. Admission is free and the event will take place from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Liverpool Live in Bonita Springs – The Southwest Florida Event Center will be hosting Liverpool live on Friday in Bonita Springs. A Beatles tribute show headlined by former members of Disneyworld in Orlando, guest can eat dinner before enjoying renditions of their favorite Beatles hits. Dinner will be served from 6 p.m. to 7:45, and the show will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $25.

Walker’s Paddle Board Race – Walker’s Hideaway Marina of Naples will be hosting their first paddle board races in Naples on Saturday. Proceeds are to benefit the YMCA of Naples. Races will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a pool party with food and live music. Registration to race is $35 per entrant, while pool party entry costs $15. Tickets can be purchased online here.

Cape 5k in Cape Coral – The City of Cape Coral will be hosting its 9th annual Cape 5k on Saturday in Cape Coral. Rounding out the 3D Racing Summer Series, those who are participating in the race will begin and end at Jaycee Park. Those looking to take part in the 5k who are 18 and over will have to register and pay $20 while participants 17 and under will have to pay $15. The event will kick off at 7 a.m.

JessLee concert and video shoot in Cape Coral – Country singer JessLee will be performing at Dixie Roadhouse on Saturday in Downtown Cape Coral. A native of Stuart, Florida, JessLee will be performing and recording a video for her new song “My Favorite Song”. Admission is free if you arrive at 5 p.m. for early scene shooting. Admission for the concert is $5 and it will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Faruko, Jacob Forever and Lary Over in Fort Myers – Headlined by Puerto Rican reggaetonero Farruko, Farruko’s TrapXficante USA Tour will stop at Six Bends Harley Davidson in South Fort Myers on Sunday. Performing his newest album TrapXficante, Farruko rose to fame for his work with reggaeton heavyweights Daddy Yankee and J Alvarez. Opening for Farruko, Jacob Forever is best known for his work with Cuban reggaeton group Gente de Zona. A native of Puerto Rico like Farruko, Lary Over is best known for his singles “Diabla” and “Tu Me Enamorastes”. Tickets are $40 for general admission, $20 for ages 12 to 16 and free for ages 11 or younger. VIP tickets for a table of four are $80 a person and the concert will begin at 2 p.m. and end at 10 p.m.
