The Collier County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to exercise caution and report any suspicious behavior while deputies investigate a burglary and sexual assault in Golden Gate that was reported at 4 a.m Sunday.
According to deputies, the incident took place at a home north of Golden Gate Parkway and east of Santa Barbara Boulevard. The suspect, who detectives describe as a Hispanic male, is believed to have entered the home and attacked the victim while she slept.
Detectives are trying to determine whether this crime is related to two previous sexual batteries in the Golden Gate area that have been linked to each other. The first took place Aug. 1, 2016, while the other was reported on June 18.
The CCSO encourages residents to call 911 if they see suspicious behavior like someone roaming the neighborhood in the late night or pre-dawn hours. Anyone with information on the crime can call 239-252-9300, or if you wish to remain anonymous and eligible for a reward call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS(8477).
CCSO reminds residents that to increase the safety of their home they should:
-Lock doors, windows and sliders at all times, even when you are home.
-Replace locks or doors if they are unable to be secured.
-If you have a home alarm keep it activated, even when you are home.
-Keep your hedges and shrubs trimmed so they cannot be used as hiding places for intruders.
-Light up your residence. Consider using sensor or motion lights.
-Notify law enforcement immediately if you see something that doesn’t look right.
