Two men are behind bars after being caught on camera stealing televisions from a Fort Myers Walmart, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.
Deputies arrested Timothy Retherford, 32, and Douglas Jones, 28, in Lehigh Acres, and charged with grand theft and resisting arrest connected to the case. Jones was also charged with possession of drug equipment when the warrant was served.
According to deputies and surveillance footage, Retherford and Jones, along with a female, loaded two 55-inch TVs and a 32-inch TV into a shopping cart from the Walmart at the corner of Six Mile Cypress Parkway and U.S. 41 on Sunday.
Deputies said that a store employee noticed the group walking past the registers toward the entrance and attempted to stop them, however they were able to get into the parking lot, load the TVs into a vehicle and drive off.
The female in the footage has been identified by police, but is apparently not being charged with anything at this time, deputies said.
Retherford and Jones both have lengthy arrest records, deputies said. Retherford has been booked into the Lee County Jail over 20 times, according to arrest records, with charges including fraud, grand theft, battery, drug trafficking, dealing in stolen property, burglary, and contempt. Jones has been arrest six times, including for drug possession, battery, and criminal mischief.
Both are currently being held at the Lee County Jail without bond.
