The Collier County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help after new information has linked two cases of violent sexual battery in Golden Gate that were committed less than a year apart.
According to detectives, the man who sexually battered a woman on June 18, 2017 also committed a similar crime in August 2016.
“Detectives have determined that this is the same perpetrator,” said Sergeant Wade Williams, the supervisor of CCSO Exploitation Section who is investigating both cases.
In both instances, the sexual batteries took place at the victim’s residence in the early hours of the morning, Williams said.
The most recent battery took place on the north side of Golden Gate Parkway, while the 2016 crime took place near 19th Place Southwest. The Sheriff’s Department is re-releasing a composite sketch of the suspect from the 2016 crime with the hope that the public will be able to assist in identifying the suspect.
Detectives describe the suspect as a Hispanic man who stands between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-8 in his 30s to late 40s. He is described as having a medium to slightly muscular build and short dark hair with facial hair, though he may have also been balding.
Deputies encourage residents to lock their doors and keep an eye out for suspicious behavior like roaming the neighborhood in the early hours of the morning. Anyone with information on the suspect or the sexual batteries should call the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at 239-252-9300 or Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477. Calls to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and tips which lead to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward.
