Collier County Sheriff’s Deputies say they have one man under arrest and another they’re on the hunt for after a traffic stop in Golden Gate revealed over 40 pounds of marijuana.

According to deputies, Ibrahim Michael Makhoul, 24, was pulled over on Interstate 75 near the Alligator Alley toll plaza after they say the black BMW appeared to have illegal window tint.

Deputies say the vehicle, after an examination by a K-9 unit, had a locked center console and a trunk unable to open. Deputies say Makhoul, from Miami and the registered owner of the vehicle, told them both had been like that since he purchased the car and he didn’t know how to open them.”

“It’s crazy,” a Sheriff’s Office report of the arrest attributed to Makhoul. “I don’t know how they gave me the car like that, like with the middle thing shut and the back thing shut too.”

Once the center console was opened, deputies say they found a container of marijuana, along with instructions on how to open the trunk.

Deputies say they seized a total of 43.5 pounds of marijuana, with an approximate value of $120,000. They also found paperwork with Makhoul’s name on it inside of the trunk, the report said.

A passenger in the vehicle remains at large. Deputies say the passenger ran away during the search, climbing a fence, swimming across a canal, and running into nearby woods.

Makhoul was charged with trafficking marijuana in excess of 25 pounds, and remains in custody. No bond had been set as of Wednesday afternoon.
