The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest on Wednesday afternoon and charged Zachary Anderson (DOB 08/25/1992) with the double-homicide committed on January 18 in Golden Gate Estates.
The bodies of two brothers were discovered inside a burning 2002 Mercury Mountaineer on 20th Avenue Northwest.
According to Collier County Sheriff’s Office detectives, Anderson shot Christopher Patrick Hunter, 36, and Thomas Anthony Hunter, 41 with an assault-style weapon and then set their vehicle on fire.
Anderson was arrested while already in CCSO custody on violation of probation charges. He is currently on Felony Probation (Active-Suspense status) for robbery charges stemming from a May 2016 robbery. Anderson has a history of aggressive criminal behavior. Prior arrests include the aforementioned robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, armed burglary of a dwelling and a DUI.
Last Wednesday, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for service on the 700 block of 20 Avenue NW, west of Wilson Boulevard North in Golden Gate Estates, regarding a burning vehicle.
Firefighters from North Collier Fire Rescue arrived and extinguished the flaming vehicle. Inside, investigators discovered two bodies.
A death investigation…turned homicide investigation…was launched.
Today, the Collier Sheriff’s Office released the names of the victims.
Christopher Patrick Hunter, 36, and Thomas Anthony Hunter, 41, residents of the same home on 13th St. N.W. were identified.
The cause of death remains undisclosed pending the autopsy results from the Medical Examiner’s Office. The investigation, however, is ongoing.
