News-Service-Florida-Logo-68x25With Florida grappling with more than 135 active wildfires, it is getting some help from South Carolina.

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam said Friday that South Carolina will send firefighters and equipment to help combat the blazes, with crews expected to arrive Saturday evening in Central Florida.

“I thank the South Carolina Forestry Commission for providing this much-needed support as our firefighters continue to battle wildfires across the state,” Putnam said in a prepared statement. “Conditions are forecast to get even drier and warmer into late spring and early summer, and Florida is going to need all the help we can get.”

Florida has experienced more than 2,000 wildfires this year, burning more than 150,000 acres, according to Putnam’s department, which includes the Florida Forest Service.
