“naplesThe FGCU softball team took two out of three in their regular-season ending series against Lipscomb, including a 4-0 shutout win Friday to lock in at the No. 4 seed going into next week’s Atlantic Sun Softball Championship in Nashville.

Taylor Wade pitched the shutout, spraying seven hits and two walks. Bri Innamorato had 2 RBIs in the win for the Eagles.

Defending conference tournament champions USC-Upstate clinched the top spot with a win over North Florida on Friday. The two teams end their regular seasons on Saturday. FGCU Baseball Idle; in Sixth with Six Conference Games to Go

The FGCU baseball team is off until May 12, when they’ll play their final home games of the 2017 season in a three-game series against Lipscomb.

Lightning and a wet field cancelled the Eagles last time out, a road game against No. 18 USF, but the two weren’t related.

A lightning delay delayed the start by an hour, then as the grounds crew was watering down the field before the start of the game, a water valve behind the pitchers’ mound burst, flooding the infield and prompting the game’s cancellation. It will not be made up.

FGCU currently sits in sixth in the conference, with a 7-8 conference record and a comfortable margin over 3-9 USC-Upstate in seventh. After Lipscomb, the Eagles have a midweek game against Miami before ending the regular season at Kennesaw State in a three-game series beginning May 18.

FGCU and UT-Arlington to Play Again

The FGCU men’s basketball team started off the 2016-17 season with a series of tough opponents, including an 85-72 home win over UT-Arlington.

The Mavs will have a chance for revenge next season.

FGCU will travel to Arlington for a non-conference game against the Mavs on Dec. 9, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reports.
