Last season, the talented slew of seniors leaving the women’s basketball team at Florida Gulf Coast University felt like the end of a golden generation.
This year’s group is a much shorter list, but no less impactful.
Jordin Alexander, Haley Laughter, and Sydnei McCaskill said their goodbyes at FGCU’s end of season banquet on Wednesday, with one more, Mikala McGhee, in a limbo of sorts.
“We’re sorry to see them go, but that’s part of it every year,” FGCU coach Karl Smesko said. “The seniors move on and the program must move on.”
A 2016-2017 squad replacing six seniors, and four starters, the Eagles managed to rebound from an overtime loss at the end of the regular season to Stetson, at home, to beat those same Hatters on the road in the finals of the Atlantic Sun tournament finals to go to their fourth NCAA Tournament.
