Code Red Underway at Naples High Due to Bomb Threat

“naplesStatement from Naples Police Department regarding today’s incident at Naples High School:

At 9:13 a.m. Naples Police telecommunications received notification from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office of a bomb threat at the Naples High School. The suspect who made the bomb threat to the Naples High School stated three explosive packages were on campus and would detonate in one hour.

Law enforcement officers from the Naples Police and Collier County Sheriff’s Office responded and searched the school for suspicious packages. A package was located in the area of the gymnasium labeled #3. Naples High School administration made the decision to immediately evacuate all students to the Coastland Center Mall parking lot and ultimately transported by bus to Gulfview Middle School. Another suspicious package was located in the area of the football field.

The Collier County Bomb Squad responded to Naples High School and took x-rays of both suspicious packages. The package labeled #3 was a photography lab bag which was determined to be property of the Naples High School. Video Surveillance revealed a student left the photography lab bag unattended when exiting the gymnasium on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. The Naples High School photography student was identified and interviewed by Naples Police Detectives. The student stated she accidentally left the photography equipment and lab bag behind when she left the gymnasium on Wednesday. The second suspicious package was determined to be a lunchbox containing a beverage thermos.

The entire campus was searched by Naples Police Officers and Collier County Sheriff’s Office Deputies. The Naples High School was determined clear of any explosive devices and safe at 1:45 p.m. Students who were bussed to Gulfview Middle School were bussed home and student drivers and walkers were bussed back to the Naples High School. All road closures were re-opened at 2:36 p.m.

Misinformation of an active shooter event and a student being shot in the school gymnasium were posted on social media during the bomb threat investigation. There were no such incidents and no reports of any injuries were made as a result of the bomb threat investigation.


Naples High students are being transported to the Gulfview Middle School gym at 255 6th Ave South. Collier Schools is advising to use the 3rd Avenue South entrance. Naples High School Little Eagles have been transported to Lake Park Elementary School located 1295 14th Ave. North.

Students were evacuated earlier to the Coastland Center Mall across the street.

According to Naples Police, they are still searching the area for suspicious activity. Nothing has been found at this time.
