“naplesOn Wednesday night, the Golden Gate Titans hosted the Barron Collier Cougars for a semi-final district showdown. The Titans took the victory with a final score of 75-36.

For the Cougars, the loss wasn’t an unusual feeling. They ended the 2016-17 season 3-25, only beating out-of-district opponents Riverdale, South Fort Myers and Dunbar. The Cougars finished 0-6 in the district.

Golden Gate, a veteran squad fielding 10 seniors, will play on. Their Wednesday night victory put them on a 4-game win streak, and made them 4-2 in the district.

While the Cougars’ season is over, the Titans have a shot at becoming the next district champion.

Golden Gate will host Naples High School in the district championship game on Friday, February 10 at 7 p.m.

The Titans have played Naples High School twice this season, losing both times. The first game, Golden Gate took a 2-point loss, while the second game was decided by 17 points.
