At around 1:40 p.m. today the Collier County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a battery at a residence on 10th Avenue Northeast in the Collier County Sheriff’s Office’s Golden Gate Estates district.
Upon further investigation deputies determined a burglary had occurred and the homeowner had been battered by the suspect. The suspect fled in a white Mustang convertible.
Around the same time, CCSO received a report of a reckless driver in a white Mustang convertible that matched the description of the burglary suspect vehicle. Deputies spotted a vehicle matching that description on Weber Boulevard near the intersection with White Boulevard.
When deputies attempted a traffic stop, the driver pulled over at first but then sped away. Deputies then engaged in a pursuit.
The Mustang collided with an 18-wheel semi at the intersection of Immokalee Road and Oakes Boulevard in CCSO’s Golden Gate district. The suspect fled the vehicle on foot and was quickly apprehended by deputies. He is currently in CCSO custody.
The suspect has not been named by authorities.
No injuries were reported in the pursuit. Charges are pending the investigation.
