Wine Wednesday is your special treat of the week, when Julie Glenn’s wine knowledge and select bottles of wine are paired with Chef Kristina San Filippo’s culinary talents at Bonita Springs culinary center; the Purple Spoon.
The Purple Spoon is truly “Culinary Central”, drawing people from North Fort Myers to Marco Island. Chef Kristina has simplified healthier eating for all, from shopping to recipes, conveniently under one central SWFL roof.
Make reservations for “Dinner at the Spoon”- seasonal multi-course dinners paired with wine, on select Friday or Saturday evenings. Buy locally grown organic produce on Wednesday afternoons, and pick up fresh, locally caught seafood and grass-fed meats.
Julie Glenn has an extensive background in wine appreciation and sales. Whether you are a total “newbie” to wine, or have a good background in wines, I am certain that during a couple of hours sampling her assortment of special (and affordable) wines, you’ll gain a valuable knowledge of the wine regions and types she has chosen.
As a bonus, each wine is artfully paired with a Chef Kristina culinary creation. Best of all, the price for all the food and wine and knowledge is only $44 plus tax- you may even want to buy a bottle or two of your favorite wine-I did!
On my Wine Wednesday visit, a dozen or so guests savored four Italian wines. The Valori Pecorino Bianco was matched with, what else, Pecorino cheese, Castelvetrano olives, Kalamata olives, pecans and warm sliced bread.
The Pecorino was my favorite wine of the evening. Then, the Felici Verdicchio Classico was matched with a savory salmon pate. The Valori Montepulciano Vigna St. Angelo was accented by chorizo and hummus on cucumber rounds.
Andrea Felici Classico rounded out the sampling.
As we sampled the wines, both with and without the edible treats, Julie gave hand outs and told us about the history of Italy, key wine regions and various DOC and DOCG wine appellations. Appell-whats? Come to a Wine Wednesday and you’ll be up on them, and your DOCs, too!
The next Wine Wednesdays are October 12’s (a second Wednesday day) featuring Big Petites; then they are back on schedule for the first Wednesday of each month, as November 2nd hosts King Burgundy and his sister Chablis, and December 2 is Meet the Pinots.
Events sell out quickly for these intimate events, so reservations are a must.
