Brian Hyde has been charged with the killing of three plus an unborn child, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. In a press conference, deputies announced they were charging Hyde, 19, with three counts of second-degree murder and the killing of an unborn child. Dorla Pitts, 37, her daughter Starlette Pitts, 17, and Starlette’s boyfriend Michael Kelly Jr., 19 were identified as the victims on Wednesday.
Starlette was pregnant at the time of her death. Hyde was a cousin of the victims, according to investigators. The three were found dead in Pitts’ Lehigh Acres home shortly before noon on Tuesday of what police are saying was repeated sharp-force trauma. An infant child of Starlette and Kelly was found unharmed.
Hyde, who deputies say was a Belize national and undocumented immigrant, was already in police custody after being arrested by the Fort Myers Police Department for driving without a license. Hyde is currently being housed at the Lee County Jail. LCSO has not said if there was a motive in the killing. Details will follow as they become available.
