According to reports, deputies responded to a call regarding shots being fired outside the rear of the Everglades School, located at 415 School Drive East, Everglades City.
Deputies said they met with the witness who said when he heard the gun shots he drove his golf cart to the area to investigate.
The witness told deputies that when he arrived he saw Galloway getting into a white Dodge pickup truck.
When Galloway saw the witness, he told him “call the law, I’ll be at home,” reports said.
The witness told deputies there was also another person present at the time of the shooting who left the scene before deputies arrived.
Deputies said they were able to make contact with that person, who later admitted that he was shot at by Galloway.
The victim told deputies that he was behind the school working on his crab traps when he and Galloway got into an argument that led to a fist fight.
Galloway then went back to his truck and returned with a handgun, chasing the victim around while firing three to four shots at him, reports said.
The victim said one of the shots struck his right hand.
According to reports, the victim initially did not want to press charges against Galloway.
Deputies said they later received a called from Galloway stating he received a call from an unknown caller demanding $27,000 or else he would press charges against him. Galloway suspected it was the victim who was calling but was not sure, reports said.
A short time later, the victim reported to deputies that he wanted to press charges against Galloway, according to reports.
Galloway was then arrested on charges of aggravated battery and discharging a firearm on school property.
