UPDATE: Inn on Fifth Naples police call unfounded, no hostage situation

naples-herald-dot-logo-20x20 (1)UPDATE: According to an Inn on Fifth hotel manager, the police call about a potential hostage situation at the hotel was false. Business is quickly returning to normal. At about 1:15 p.m. a S.W.A.T. team emerged from the hotel without anyone in custody. Authorities took down the crime scene tape and began to clear out of the area.


According to a news tip, there is a potential hostage situation underway at the Inn on 5th Avenue South, 699 5th Ave. S.

Naples Police officials have blocked off a section of Fifth Avenue as they investigate a call regarding the situation.

According to eyewitnesses, Fifth Avenue has been blocked off since 10 a.m. and is now blocked from Tamiami Trail N all the way to 6th Street. Eyewitnesses have also told Naples Herald that a bomb squad has arrived on scene in addition to a S.W.A.T. team.

According to the tip, someone has barricaded themselves in their hotel room. It is unclear whether the man is armed and how many people are barricaded in the room.

The Inn on Fifth’s Marketing Director, Cathy Christopher, would not confirm the situation, however did admit police are on scene investigating.

“Police are here. We can assure that all our guests are safe,” Christopher said.

Christopher said there has been a partial evacuation of the Inn on Fifth.

There have been conflicting reports regarding the nature of the situation.
