FGCU Student Dies in Crash on US-41 in Fort Myers

22-year-old Dunedin native and FGCU student, Jesse Michel Woodyard, was hit by two vehicles on US-41 at about 4:30am Tuesday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol stated that Woodyard was in the northbound lanes on US-41 just south of Island Park Road when he was hit by a Toyota Yaris driven by 21-year-old Nicholas Lee Christian Trotter. The impact threw Woodyard on the outside northbound lane where another vehicle was unable to avoid him. The Ford Aerostar hit and dragged Woodyard until the driver was able to stop.

Neither driver was impaired, toxicology reports are pending to determine whether alcohol played a factor in Jesse’s death.

A fishing tournament will be held on Friday, April 4th, in honor of Jesse.
